Division of Clinical Psychology and SuMiT:

Supporting Members in Trouble

The Membership Services Unit (MSU) of the Division of Clinical Psychology recognises that being a clinical psychologist in these challenging times can be difficult. Sometimes the challenges of the job result in personal and/or professional problems.

The MSU wants to set up a system of effective Support for Members in Trouble (SuMiT). In 2008 we will aim to set up a reliable internet forum where members can present questions various personal and professional problem issues:

  • I have a question about ethics
  • I have a problem with my employer
  • I have some personal/professional issues and need advice

Members can log on to the forum anonymously if they so wish to do so. We are in the process of setting up a panel of experienced clinical psychologist who will monitor these forums and answer questions asked. The colleagues who provide the answers and the BPS can take no legal responsibility for the consequences of the suggestions.

If you have suggestions or ideas, do not hesitate to send the Director of the MSU an e-mail, likewise if you are confronted with professional or personal difficulties and are in need of assistance, the Director MSU may be able toput you in touch with the right person.
